Gravity Sewer or Pressure Sewer?

The type of sewer connection depends on the depth of the municipal sewer main.

Gravity Sewer

When the municipal sewer is deep enough, wastewater flows naturally downhill from your home to the sewer main. In most cases, the sewer pipe exits beneath the basement floor and requires no pumps or mechanical equipment.

Pressure Sewer

If the municipal sewer main is pressure, the installation of a grinder pump would be required to connect your home or building to the sewer. Herr can bid on and install the complete system including the grinder pump.

Why Modern Sewer Installation Matters

Older sewer laterals used clay, cast iron or concrete pipe. The joints between these materials can separate over time, allowing tree roots to enter the pipe and create blockages.

New PVC sewer pipes offer a durable, watertight connection resistant to leaks and root intrusion.
